As we continue forward in 2026, the Great Lakes Annual Conference Nominations Team invites you to prayerfully consider how you might share your gifts, talents, and time in service. We are seeking individuals to serve across our various teams and committees whether you have expressed interest in the past or are feeling called to step in for the very first time.

A Fresh Invitation to Serve

If you completed a Willingness to Serve form last year, we encourage you to submit a new form for 2026. As our conference continues to grow, so do the needs and opportunities for service. Your interests, availability, or sense of calling may have shifted, and an updated form helps the Nominations Team thoughtfully discern where each person can best serve.

Nominate Someone Else

We also invite you to prayerfully consider others who may be a great fit for conference leadership. Is there someone in your church or network whose gifts could strengthen our shared ministry? Sometimes people need a simple invitation or encouragement to step forward, and you can be part of that by submitting their name for consideration.

How the Process Works

The Nominations Team carefully reviews each submission and engages in a prayerful process of discernment to shape our ministry teams. Our goal is to build teams that reflect a variety of perspectives, experiences, and locations, while aligning individuals’ gifts with meaningful opportunities to serve.

Discover Scouting Ministry: Faith, Fun & Fellowship for Every Age

Scouting ministry is one way the Global Methodist Church (GM Church) walks alongside children, youth, and families as they grow in character, leadership, faith, and service. Through partnerships with scouting-type organizations, churches help create spaces where young people can experience adventure, build meaningful relationships with caring adults, and explore how faith connects with everyday life. Scouting ministry welcomes families from the community and offers opportunities for both youth and adults to grow spiritually while serving together.

Many congregations partner with scouting-type organizations as part of their ministry with children and youth. Here are a few of the organizations they may work with:

Scouting America (formerly the Boy Scouts of America) offers programs for children and youths from kindergarten through young adulthood: Cubs; Scouts; Venturers.
Girl Scouts of the USA provides programs for girls from kindergarten through high school: Daisies; Brownies; Juniors; Cadettes; Seniors.
American Heritage Girls provides programs for girls from kindergarten through high school: Pathfinders; Tenderhearts; Explorers; Pioneers; Patriots.
Trail Life provides programs for boys from kindergarten through high school: The Woodlands Trail; Navigators; Adventurers.

These organizations emphasize personal growth through outdoor adventure, achievement recognition, uniforms, adult role models, and more. These organizations share a common heritage in the youth movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In England, this was shaped by Muscular Christianity; in the United States, by Theodore Roosevelt’s idea of The Strenuous Life ; and in Germany, by the Wandervogel movement.

The GM Church works with children, youth, and families involved in these programs to support their adventures. Congregations of the GM Church may sponsor units of these and similar organizations (e.g., 4-H, Camp Fire), and these units are part of our congregations’ portfolio of ministries. This means that all members and volunteers connected to these units, whether or not they belong to our church, are part of our ministry. GM Church congregations in other countries are connected to different scouting associations. As partners in ministry, we support their work with youth in their local contexts.

Additionally, we subscribe to PRAY Publishing programs, which provide five short-term studies for children and youth: Jesus & Me (K–1st Grade); God & Me (2nd–3rd Grade); God & Family (4th–5th Grade); God & Church (middle school); God & Life (high school/young adult). These church-based recognition programs are available to all children and youth of the congregation; students do not need to be registered in a scouting-type organization. PRAY also recognizes adults who minister through scouting volunteering with the God & Service Award.

Each organization has its own special days of observance, but churches may choose how to observe and recognize ministries. The GM Church encourages lifting up the accomplishments of youth involved in these programs and recognizing volunteers for their ministry.

The Great Lakes Annual Conference offers a recognition program for adults who minister through any scouting-type organization. The Witness Award requires the candidate to have both a scouting mentor and a church mentor. The Great Lakes Conference School of Lay Ministry also offers a Specialty Course in Scouting Ministry.

Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ, and scouting-type programs serve as a means toward that end. The GLAC Discipleship Team is responsible for resourcing scouting as ministry in our area. GENERAL CONFERENCE 2026: An Update from the Great Lakes Delegation

It has been nine months since the Great Lakes Annual Conference elected its delegates, alternates, and reserves for General Conference — the highest governing body of the Global Methodist Church. When it meets, delegates from around the world will represent more than 7,000 churches, including the Great Lakes Annual Conference.

Although General Conference does not meet until August 30, the delegation has already begun its work on several decisions regarding the episcopacy.

Bishop Nominations

Each delegation could nominate up to one candidate from within its conference and one from outside. The Great Lakes delegation nominated Scott Pattison (Great Lakes) and Gabriella Kopas (Central Europe).

Area Episcopacy Committee Representatives

Each delegation elected one clergy and one lay member to serve on the Area Episcopacy Committee. The Great Lakes delegation elected Jen Wilson (clergy) and Mike Womack (lay). This committee will begin meeting in June to determine episcopal areas, assess what the Great Lakes Conference needs in a bishop, interview nominees, and make recommendations to the delegation.

Episcopal Area Partnerships

Delegations were asked to rank up to ten annual conferences as potential partners in sharing a bishop. The Great Lakes list, in order: Allegheny West, Oasis, Upper Midwest, MidSouth, Heartland, Ethiopia Nazrawiyan, Western Europe, Central Europe, North Georgia, and Virginia. The Global Episcopacy Committee and Area Episcopacy Committee will use these rankings to form episcopal areas of six to eight conferences, each led by a single bishop.

Commissions, Councils, and Committees

In January, the delegation invited your input to help identify potential members for various Global Methodist Church bodies. Those suggestions are under review, and the delegation plans to finalize its recommendations at its next meeting.

Looking Ahead

Because this is a brand-new process, these decisions have required significant discussion and prayerful consideration. All four were due March 15, and the delegation is grateful to report that it expects to meet that deadline.

General Conference will meet August 30–September 5 in Johannesburg, South Africa . Four hundred twenty-two delegates will gather to confirm structural decisions, elect bishops, and elect members to the church's commissions, councils, and committees, among other legislative responsibilities. Bishop Mark Webb to Visit GLAC Churches Once Again for Time of Teaching

Global Methodist Church Bishop Mark Webb will return to the Great Lakes Annual Conference in February for his second tour, once again traveling with Conference Superintendent Scott Pattison to lead special gatherings designed for both clergy and laity. These continuing events will center on the theme "The Heart of a Leader" for clergy and "Being the Church – Living our Identity & Purpose" for laity.

"The response to Bishop Webb's first visit was tremendous," said Conference Superintendent Pattison. "We're excited to welcome him back and extend this opportunity to additional areas of our conference. His commitment to investing in our pastors and laity continues to bear fruit, and I encourage everyone who hasn't yet had the chance to attend to make this a priority."

Each host congregation will welcome participants with time set aside for fellowship and teaching.

Building on the success of the initial tour, additional host sites representing different areas of the Great Lakes region have been selected. Host churches for this second round include those listed below.

Forming for the Future: Two Strategic Contract Roles Now Open

In December 2025, the Great Lakes Annual Conference (GLAC) received an $800,000 grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to launch the Equipping Initiative —an ambitious effort to strengthen local church ministry across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

This grant supports our strategic plan by establishing ministerial scholarships, funding church plants, developing leadership training, and building sustainable infrastructure for long-term impact.

Now we're looking for two exceptional professionals to help bring this vision to life.

Two Strategic Contract Roles

1. Development Fundraising Consultant

What You'll Do: Lead a $400,000 matching funds campaign over three years to establish the Ministerial Scholarship Fund and Equipping Fund endowment.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and execute a major gifts strategy targeting 25+ prospective donors
Cultivate relationships through personal visits and strategic engagement
Create donor stewardship systems that build long-term partnerships

Great Lakes Annual Conference Receives Support from a $800,000 Grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to Strengthen GLAC Churches

The Connectional Council of the Global Methodist Church has received a grant of $800,000 from Lilly Endowment Inc. to help support The Great Lakes Annual Conference of the Global Methodist Church (GLAC) to help establish the Equipping Initiative.

The grant builds upon a $49,900 planning grant received earlier this year, which enabled the GLAC to develop an implementation framework for its strategic plan . That plan, approved at the annual conference session in June 2025, identifies five strategic areas of focus: Cultural Formation, Discipleship Formation, Leadership Formation, Local Church Formation, and Missional Formation.

“This grant is an answer to prayer,” said Rev. Dr. Scott Pattison, Conference Superintendent for the GLAC. “Since inception, our leaders have been discerning avenues by which we can better support pastors and develop the next generation of leaders. Now we have the resources to turn those conversations into action—investing in scholarships, apprenticeships, resources, and church planting that will bear fruit for decades to come.”

The grant will support four key areas of investment that support the initiative:

Ministerial Support and Equipping Fund ($400,000): Establishes an endowment to support ministerial scholarships for those pursuing ordained ministry, church plant seed funding, pastoral apprenticeship programs, internship placements in thriving congregations, and innovative ministry development. Half of this amount ($400,000) will be raised through a 1:1 matching campaign, leveraging the Endowment's investment, to generate $800,000 in total funding for these funds.

Development and Project Management ($200,000): Provides professional fundraising communications and project management support to help the conference achieve matching funds goals and coordinate implementation across all strategic areas.

Leadership and Capacity Development ($140,000): Partners with qualified experts to deliver training on disciple-making strategies, church health assessments, evangelism training, leadership development pathways, adaptive ministry for changing contexts, and more.

Technology and Systems Infrastructure ($60,000): Develops digital platforms featuring church assessment tools, coaching resources, videography, a learning management system, and a resource-sharing network connecting churches across the conference.

With matching funds, this opportunity could raise up to $1.2 million, $800,000 from Lilly Endowment and $400,000 from funds raised through GLAC.

“Our strategic plan lays out an ambitious vision, and now we have generous resources to make it a reality,” said Rev. Tyler Best, Director of Operations. “From digital tools that connect our churches to scholarships that remove barriers for future pastors, every aspect of this grant is designed to strengthen local congregations where ministry happens every day. We are very grateful to Lilly Endowment for entrusting us with this opportunity.”

The Equipping Initiative is being funded through Lilly Endowment’s Supporting Hoosier Churches Initiative. This initiative is designed to help strengthen the capacities of regional denominational organizations and church networks in Indiana to help their congregations thrive and contribute to quality of life in the local communities they serve. The grant to the Connectional Council of the Global Methodist Church supporting GLAC is one of 37 that is receiving funding through the initiative.

A Call to Stand Together: Year-End Appeal for Oasis Conference

Last summer, some members of the Great Lakes Annual Conference met a leader from Oasis Conference, a missional partner of the conference, whose courage and faith left an indelible mark on our hearts. Despite urgent warnings about the dangers in his city—despite friends and fellow believers pleading with him to seek asylum elsewhere—he made the difficult choice to stay. To remain with his people. To continue the work God has called him to, no matter the cost.

Recently, that cost became devastatingly real. Armed men invaded his home, carrying machetes. They threatened his wife and children and waited to ambush him when he returned. Only by God's grace and a timely warning did he escape that day.

This is not a another news story to gloss over. This is our brother in Christ. His family is our family. His danger is our concern. The Oasis Conference serves an overseas region of the world where it is dangerous to share the Gospel and many worship in underground churches.

There is an urgent need right now: a safe haven in a more secure city where this leader and perhaps others like him can flee with their families when violence closes in. The GLAC has been invited to contribute $10,000 to help fund this refuge.

We're asking small groups, local churches, individuals, and districts across our conference to come together during this season of giving. Every gift—whether $25, $100, or $1,000—brings us closer to this goal. We will update you weekly through the end of the year on our progress. Any amount raised beyond $10,000 will be directed to Oasis Conference's most pressing needs as determined by their leaders.

Pattison Announces Stan Pegram as Interim Dean of the Cabinet

Conference Superintendent Scott Pattison is pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Stan Pegram as Interim Dean of the Cabinet, effective immediately.

Rev. Pegram currently serves as pastor of Connexion Church in Kokomo, Indiana. He previously served as Presiding Elder of the former Wisconsin West district, where he led Backroads Church in and around Boscobel, Wisconsin. Known for his pastoral heart and innovative approach to ministry, Rev. Pegram brought together seven churches in rural Wisconsin to create a thriving multi-site ministry model.

"Stan has demonstrated exceptional leadership and creativity in his ministry," said Superintendent Pattison. "His experience as both a pastor and past Presiding Elder, combined with his collaborative spirit, makes him ideally suited for this important role."

As Dean of the Cabinet, Rev. Pegram will serve as a strategic partner to the Conference Superintendent and Presiding Elders across the four-state region. Like the majority of Presiding Elders, Rev. Pegram will continue to serve a local church while serving on the Cabinet part-time. His responsibilities include working with the Conference Superintendent to support Presiding Elders, shepherd ongoing work, and strategize for the future of pastors and congregations.

GLAC Welcomes New Office Manager Carol Perry

The Great Lakes Annual Conference (GLAC) is thrilled to welcome Carol Perry as its new Office Manager. Carol began serving in mid-November 2025, and her enthusiasm is already lighting up the team.

From her home in Illinois, where she is an active member of Grace Methodist Church in Decatur, Carol will serve as the first point of contact with the GLAC office. She will be managing the phone system, general email, maintaining the conference calendars, and overseeing data management—making sure you are connected and supported.

Carol is very familiar with the GLAC, having served on the conference prayer team and as co-district prayer point person for the IL Central district, where she has been faithfully interceding for churches. She also brings a long-term familiarity with the Wesleyan Covenant Association and Global Methodist Church.

Carol's journey has always been about serving others. She spent two decades in public schools as a special education teaching assistant, bringing patience and compassion to students who needed it most. Before that, she worked in social work, advocating for vulnerable populations.

Now she is bringing all that experience—and all that heart—to serve the conference.

Bishop Mark Webb to Visit Great Lakes Annual Conference Churches for Time of Teaching

Global Methodist Church Bishop Mark Webb will visit multiple churches throughout the Great Lakes Annual Conference in early December, traveling with Conference Superintendent Scott Pattison to lead special gatherings designed for both clergy and laity. These events will center on the theme "The Heart of a Leader" for clergy and "Being the Church – Living our Identity & Purpose" for laity.

"The Global Methodist Church has been intentional about restoring the teaching ministry of our bishops," said Conference Superintendent Pattison. "We are truly grateful that Bishop Webb is dedicating this time to pour into the pastors and laity of the Great Lakes Conference. I encourage everyone who can attend to take advantage of this opportunity for spiritual formation and renewal."

Each host congregation will welcome participants for both a clergy session and a laity session, with time set aside for fellowship and teaching.

Given Bishop Webb's availability and the geographic breadth of the conference, organizers have chosen host sites that represent different areas of the Great Lakes region. What We've Done So Far

In just over a year, GLAC has joyfully committed approximately 10% of our operating budget to help launch and support the Oasis Conference and the Ethiopian Nazrawiyan Conference . That’s something to celebrate! But the work is far from over—many churches and pastors still need our help. We’re inviting more congregations to join in giving, so together we can make an even greater impact for Christ around the world.

The Oasis Conference: Brave Christians in Dangerous Places

The Oasis Conference serves in a region where following Christ is against the law and believers must gather in secret. Yet, even in the face of intense persecution, God is moving in powerful ways. The Holy Spirit is revealing Himself through dreams and visions, and underground churches are growing despite the danger.

These courageous believers continue to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, one person at a time, risking everything because of their unshakable faith. GLAC churches are standing with them, providing prayer, encouragement, and financial support for the brave who serve Christ at great personal cost.

The Ethiopian Nazrawiyan Conference: Bringing Hope to 100 Million People

The Ethiopian Nazrawiyan Conference serves Christian believers across Ethiopia—a vast nation of more than 100 million people, where deep poverty remains a daily challenge. Although Ethiopia upholds religious freedom, Christians are a minority and are surrounded by countries where persecution is much more severe.

Yet, in the midst of these challenges, God is doing amazing things! Hundreds of new churches have been planted throughout Ethiopia—some meeting in homes, others gathering under trees. Through the power of the Jesus Film, many are hearing about Jesus for the first time. Dedicated church leaders are traveling to remote areas to help new believers grow and to plant even more churches.

GLAC congregations are partnering in this vital work by helping provide school support for pastors’ children and funding much-needed church roofs—strengthening both families and faith communities across Ethiopia.

GLAC Leaders Meet for Inaugural Champions Summit

MERRILLVILLE, IN – The Great Lakes Annual Conference (GLAC) marked a pivotal moment in its three-year strategic journey as the Strategy Team gathered with newly appointed Goal Champions at the Champions Summit, held from October 20 to 22, 2025, at Indiana Wesleyan University's Merrillville location.

Spearheaded by Rev. Tyler Best, Director of Operations, and strategic coach Rev. Dr. J.R. Briggs of Kairos Partnerships, the Summit brought together passionate leaders committed to advancing the conference's mission across the five strategic areas and 25 goals spanning 2025-2028. The Champions Summit was funded by a generous grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to support the implementation of the GLAC strategic plan.

"This strategic plan represents more than processes and timelines – it embodies our collective hope for what God is calling the Great Lakes Annual Conference to become," said Rev. Best. "That hope rests not in perfectly executed plans, but in faithful people who are willing to step forward in faith and allow the Holy Spirit to use their gifts for the glory of God and furthering of His Kingdom."

The Champions Summit provided orientation and training to leaders who answered the call to champion specific goals within the strategic plan. Sessions led by Briggs and Best highlighted topics such as team formation, culture, and dynamics, as well as translating goals into action and providing insight into the structure and process of implementing goals. Time was also critically spent praying and building relationships with one another.

Supporting the champions are Strategic Area Liaisons who serve as bridges between the champions and the Strategy Team: Rev. Tyler Best (Cultural Formation), Ellen Harbin (Discipleship Formation), Rev. Ben Palmer (Leadership Formation), Jill Davis (Local Church Formation), Rev. Patricia Tristan (Missional Formation), and Rev. Dr. Scott Pattison (Definitions Team).

In addition to the liaisons, other Strategy Team members providing oversight include Rev. Kara Bussabarger, Rev. Stan Pegram, Mike Pickell, and Rev. Russell Williams.

Rather than attempting all goals simultaneously, the Strategy Team has adopted a phased implementation approach over multiple years. Goal Champions will develop comprehensive implementation plans that undergo review by the Strategy Team, ensuring both entrepreneurial creativity and strategic coherence. Year 1 goals (2025-26) focus on foundation-building, with subsequent years building upon these established frameworks. Year 2 Goal Champions will be identified in Spring 2026. Great Lakes Annual Conference Enters Implementation Phase of Strategic Plan

The Great Lakes Annual Conference (GLAC) is excited to provide an update regarding its “Forming for the Future” strategic plan, following its overwhelming approval at the annual conference session in Spring Arbor this June. The comprehensive three-year plan establishes five strategic areas with 25 specific goals designed to strengthen the conference's distinctive Wesleyan identity while equipping disciples, developing leaders, supporting local churches, and advancing missional advancement.

Soon after the annual conference session, a Strategy Team was assembled to guide the implementation process, prioritize goals across the three-year timeline, and identify strategic initiatives for immediate focus. The Strategy Team includes members of the original strategic planning refinement team alongside additional conference leaders who bring relevant gifts and experience to the process. Those serving on the Strategy Team include clergy and laity from all four states: Jill Davis, Ellen Harbin, Rev. Ben Palmer, Rev. Stan Pegram, Mike Pickell, Rev. Patricia Tristan, and Rev. Russell Williams along with conference staff Rev. Tyler Best, Rev. Kara Bussbarger, and Conference Superintendent Scott Pattison.

“What began as a conference-wide conversation has transformed into a clear, Spirit-led roadmap for our future,” says Rev. Dr. Scott Pattison, GLAC Conference Superintendent. “Now comes the exciting part – bringing this vision to life through the passionate commitment of our Strategy Team, Goal Champions, and other conference leaders who will help steward specific initiatives.”

Two months into the implementation phase, the Strategy Team has been working diligently to transform the plan into actionable initiatives. Rather than attempting to implement all 25 goals simultaneously, the team is taking a strategic approach by identifying priority goals for the first year while developing a roadmap for the full three-year implementation timeline.

The Strategy Team's role includes:

Monitoring progress across all five strategic areas, identifying opportunities for synergy and addressing potential gaps
Working alongside Goal Champions and tactical teams to ensure clear metrics, timelines, and resource allocation are established and maintained
Providing wisdom and direction when tactical teams encounter challenges or need to adjust their thinking
Facilitating communication between strategic areas and serve as a liaison alongside conference leadership
Regularly assessing and reporting on overall strategic plan progress to the Conference Connectional Council and conference-wide

Some Strategy Team members will also serve as primary liaisons to specific strategic areas (Cultural Formation, Discipleship Formation, Leadership Formation, Local Church Formation, or Missional Formation), while others will serve as generalists who help maintain focus on the integrated vision of the entire plan.

“Out Strategic Plan isn't just a document that will sit on a shelf,” emphasizes Rev. Tyler Best, GLAC Director of Operations and Strategy Team member. “Our approach empowers those championing each goal to invest in their area, while ensuring coordination and alignment across all initiatives.”

The conference staff and Strategy Team are now working to convene individuals or teams to serve as Goal Champions who will steward the implementation of specific first-year goals within the strategic plan.

Goal Champions will:

Take primary responsibility for their goals' progress and measurable impact
Collaborate with Strategy Team members and conference staff to develop tactical objectives with clear timelines and success metrics
Recruit and coordinate leaders and resources needed for implementation
Work to ensure accountability and progress tracking
Stay aligned with their strategic area's overall direction and the conference's culture statement

Implementation will span the next three years, with the Strategy Team working to sequence goals strategically and ensure adequate support and resources for each initiative.

“We invite all conference lay and clergy members to continue praying for this implementation process,” encourages the Strategy Team. “As we continue along the process, there will be other opportunities for broader participation as tactical plans are developed and implemented.”

The Strategy Team meets regularly to coordinate implementation efforts, support Goal Champions, and ensure the strategic plan remains an ongoing process that guides the conference's growth and development. Updates on implementation progress will be shared regularly through conference communications.

GLAC Announces Two New Staff

The Great Lakes Annual Conference (GLAC) is pleased to announce the hiring of two new staff members who began their roles on Monday, August 18, 2025. Following a comprehensive selection process that began with 20 candidates, the conference has welcomed Kathy Anderson as Operations Coordinator/Bookkeeper and Wendy Layden as Office Manager.

“We are thrilled to welcome these two exceptional professionals to our team,” said Rev. Tyler Best, Director of Operations. “After a thorough discernment process involving our interview teams, we are confident that both Kathy and Wendy bring the technical expertise, ministry heart, and collaborative spirit needed to support our mission of strengthening local churches throughout the Great Lakes region.”

Kathy Anderson – Operations Coordinator/Bookkeeper

Anderson brings more than 25 years of bookkeeping experience to her new role, including extensive QuickBooks expertise and deep knowledge of the local church gained through her previous work in local church settings. She recently served as registrar for the Conference's 2025 annual conference session, where her exceptional project management and organizational skills were evident to conference leadership.

Anderson's combination of technical competency, commitment to Christ, and collaborative approach positions her to help build sustainable operational systems that will strengthen the conference's ability to serve its churches. Wendy Layden – Office Manager

Layden assumes the role of Office Manager, serving as the primary in-person presence at the conference's main office in Kokomo and the go-to person for data management and record keeping. She brings 25 years of administrative experience from diverse sectors, including higher education, K-12 schools, non-profit organizations, and state agencies, where she successfully managed complex data systems, coordinated multi-faceted programs, and served as a communication hub for various stakeholders.

Her background also includes experience as a campus director for a local church, providing her with a firsthand understanding of ministry and local church needs. Layden's expertise in database management, customer service, and office operations, combined with her passion for meaningful Kingdom work, makes her uniquely qualified to support the conference's churches and leadership. Lilly Endowment Inc. Grant to Strengthen GLAC Local Churches

Kokomo, IN – A $49,900 grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. has been generously awarded to benefit the Great Lakes Annual Conference of the Global Methodist Church (GLAC) through the Supporting Hoosier Churches Initiative. The funding will be used to develop an implementation framework for the GLAC’s recently approved strategic plan that will strengthen local congregations in the conference.

“We are deeply grateful for Lilly Endowment Inc.'s commitment to strengthening the capacity of regional judicatories to support local churches,” said Rev. Dr. Scott Pattison, Conference Superintendent for the GLAC. “This grant award represents a timely opportunity for the Great Lakes Annual Conference to translate our strategic vision into actionable plans that will strengthen and increase our capacity to fulfill the GM Church's mission.”

The implementation framework will build upon strategic planning work that involved virtual listening sessions and a conference-wide survey of over 120 respondents. Through a comprehensive strategic planning process, conference leaders identified pressing needs for continued formation in organizational culture, discipleship, leadership, local church development, and mission.

“Our desire is to strengthen these five focus areas to equip the local church in their critical work,” explained Rev. Tyler Best, Director of Operations for the GLAC. “While our strategic plan is getting into place, this grant will enable us to develop specific objectives and tactical components to implement these goals effectively.”

The Supporting Hoosier Churches Initiative is part of Lilly Endowment Inc.'s ongoing commitment to supporting Christian congregations and fostering vibrant communities of faith. The primary aim of the initiative is to strengthen the capacities of Indiana regional judicatories and selected church networks to support Christian churches across the state. The assessment and planning phase will conclude within the next year, positioning GLAC to move forward with implementing a strengthened ministry.

The Great Lakes Annual Conference (GLAC) is announcing a new district structure, effective August 1, 2025, for our Illinois churches to strengthen connection and improve efficiency. Flood Relief Update from the MidTexas Annual Conference

“MidTexas wants to thank the connection for the outpouring of prayers and support for the people of our conference. We have been humbled by all those around the country that have reached out and given voice and heart to what it means to be a connectional church. Thank you.

In the weeks and months ahead, there will be a need for ongoing recovery work on the ground. We are working to set up those opportunities to serve in ways that are safe for the participants and helpful to recipients. More information on that will be forthcoming in the next week.

If you would like to help today, here are three things you can do:

Pray. Take time every day and throughout every day to pray for those who have lost family, friends, and loved ones. Pray for our families that have lost their homes and businesses. Pray for our farmers who have lost their crops. Pray for our ranchers who have lost their herds. Prayer is our first response—and it makes all the difference.

GLAC Announces Strategic Staff Restructuring to Strengthen Local Church Support

The Great Lakes Annual Conference (GLAC) today announced a staff restructuring designed to better align conference resources with the new strategic plan and enhance support for local churches and leaders across the four-state region. The restructuring has been approved by both the Finance and Administration Committee and the Conference Connectional Council.

The restructuring creates a new Director of Equipping position and redistributes responsibilities across key staff roles to improve efficiency and focus on the conference's core mission of strengthening local churches.

“This restructuring represents our commitment to equipping local churches and supporting ministry health," said Conference Superintendent Scott Pattison. “By creating the Director of Equipping position, we're making a further investment in our core mission and aligning our resources with the strategic plan and equipping theme that has been central to our recent Annual Conference session.”

Key Staffing Changes

Rev. Kara Bussabarger will transition from Administrative Assistant to Director of Equipping, effective August 1, 2025. In her current role, Bussabarger has demonstrated exceptional organizational skills, strong leadership, and a deep understanding of the needs of local churches and their leaders. In this new position, she brings a unique and valuable combination of executive capability, strategic leadership, and deep pastoral insight, drawing on nearly two decades of ministry experience. Known for her passion for church health and leader development, Bussabarger will help guide efforts in local church and leadership support, professional development opportunities, equipping event coordination, external communications, and more.

Rev. Tyler Best will continue as Director of Operations and add Conference Treasurer responsibilities, effective August 1, 2025. Best brings his church and nonprofit finance experience to this expanded role. His comprehensive understanding of conference systems and strategic planning makes him ideally positioned to serve in this dual capacity, ensuring seamless integration of operational and financial oversight. His areas include day-to-day conference operations/logistics, project management, strategic plan implementation, staff oversight/human resources, financial management, external communications, and technology.

Rev. Dr. Scott Pattison continues as Conference Superintendent, providing strategic leadership and vision for the conference's mission across the four-state region.

From the Pulpit to the Pits

Great Lakes Pastor Chris Roberts Ministers at 230 MPH

This Sunday, Pastor Chris Roberts of Corinth Church in Muncie, Indiana, won’t be preaching from behind a pulpit. Instead, he’ll be on the asphalt at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, serving alongside his 350,000 closest “congregants” during the 109th running of the iconic Indianapolis 500.

Roberts isn’t there for the thrill—though there’s plenty of it. For the past 8 years, the Great Lakes pastor has served on the IMS Recovery Team, a critical crew responsible for clearing wreckage, assisting injured drivers, and ensuring the track stays safe and clean. His role? It begins with prayer—and continues with practical, hands-on service.

“It started out as a hobby,” Roberts said, “but has become an amazing way to do ministry. God is using it in ways I never expected.”

After 24 years in pastoral ministry, Roberts, who also serves as the secretary of the Great Lakes Board of Ministry, has found a surprising second congregation among Recovery Team workers and staff who keep the world’s largest single-day sporting event running. “Being part of the Recovery Team has pushed me outside the church bubble,” he said. “It’s opened the door to relationships I never would’ve built otherwise.”

And those relationships run deep. In quiet conversations between races, in moments of downtime or tragedy, Roberts has been a steady pastoral presence. He’s prayed with teammates, talked faith during long track hours—and even officiated funerals for Recovery Team members and their families.

“It’s allowed me to be the hands and feet of Jesus,” Roberts shared. “To walk with people in both the everyday moments and the crisis ones.”

As for what he’s looking forward to at this year’s race?

“It’s always about safety—this sport is dangerous,” Roberts said. “But for me, more than anything, it’s about the people. The friendships. That’s what keeps me coming back.”

GLAC Prepares for General Conference Delegate Elections

The Great Lakes Annual Conference (GLAC) is preparing for a historic moment in our denomination's history as we approach the 2026 General Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa. Self-nomination profiles for General Conference delegate nominees are now available on our conference website for your review and prayerful consideration.

Current Nominees

We currently have 23 clergy nominees and 18 lay nominees who have submitted their names and information for consideration. These dedicated individuals have stepped forward to potentially serve as our representatives at this momentous gathering. However, it's important to remember that eligible clergy and laity can still be nominated from the floor of annual conference before voting takes place, ensuring every qualified person has the opportunity to serve.

A Historic General Conference

The 2026 General Conference will be held from August 30 through September 5, 2026, at the Sandton Convention Centre in the heart of Johannesburg's vibrant financial district. This marks a watershed moment for our denomination—the first time the Global Methodist Church's General Conference will convene on the African continent. This historic decision powerfully affirms our commitment to being a truly global movement that spans continents and cultures.

The gathering will center around the inspiring theme "The Beauty of Holiness – A Spirit-Filled Life. A Holy Calling," calling us to deeper spiritual formation and faithful service.

Delegate Allocation for Great Lakes

The General Conference Commission has released preliminary projections for delegate allocation. The Great Lakes Annual Conference is projected to have 18 delegates—nine lay people and nine clergy—representing a decrease from the 20 delegates we had at 2024's Convening General Conference.

It's crucial to understand that these are preliminary numbers. The official delegate count for each annual conference will be finalized in February 2026, based on the actual number of churches and pastors as of January 1, 2026. To ensure adequate representation, our conference will elect sufficient alternate and reserve delegates in case our official allocation increases.

The preliminary total allocation for General Conference in South Africa across all conferences is set at 420 delegates, which falls at the high end of the acceptable range established by the GM Church's Connectional Council. These numbers are based on estimated church and pastor counts submitted by conference superintendents.

A Call to Prayer and Discernment

As we approach this election, we invite all lay and clergy members to engage in intentional prayer and discernment. The delegates we elect will help shape the future direction of our global denomination during this pivotal gathering in South Africa.

Forming for the Future: GLAC Strategic Plan Ready for Conference-Wide Unveiling

The Great Lakes Annual Conference (GLAC) of the Global Methodist Church is pleased to announce the successful completion of its strategic planning process, with the final strategic plan now ready for conference-wide communication and affirmation at the upcoming annual conference session in Spring Arbor, Michigan, this June. This announcement follows the previously completed Gathering Phase (January-March) and Refinement Phase (April-May), representing the culmination of months of prayerful discernment and collaborative effort. The implementation phase will span over the next 2-3 years.

Forming for the Future

Under the theme “Forming for the Future,” inspired by Isaiah 64:8 (NLT): "And yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand," the strategic plan provides a comprehensive framework for the conference's continued formation in the coming years.

“What began as a conference-wide conversation has transformed into a clear, Spirit-led roadmap for our future,” says Rev. Dr. Scott Pattison, GLAC Conference Superintendent. “The strategic plan reflects the collective wisdom and faithful insights of our conference community. We are confident the Holy Spirit has guided this process and that the resulting plan will serve as a powerful tool for advancing God’s mission for our conference in the years to come.”

The Refinement Phase task team, composed of Jill Davis, Bridget Douglas, Ellen Harbin, Rev. Dr. Scott Pattison, Rev. Stan Pegram, Rev. Tyler Best, and Rev. Kara Bussabarger, completed their intensive work at the end of April. The team meticulously analyzed all input from the 120+ survey responses and feedback received from multiple brainstorming sessions, identifying key themes that emerged across the conference.

“The level of consistency in the feedback we received was remarkable,” notes Rev. Tyler Best, GLAC Director of Operations. “Certain priorities and values clearly resonated throughout our conference, giving us confidence that this plan truly represents a collective vision and not just the perspectives of a small group.”

The Leadership Council recently reviewed and voted to forward the plan for report and affirmation at the GLAC’s annual conference next month. The completed plan, which has a scope of at least two years, is structured around five strategic areas, each with five broad goals:

Cultural Formation: Continuing development of a distinctive, Spirit-led Wesleyan identity and culture
Discipleship Formation : Equipping faithful disciples who grow in their faith journey and make other disciples
Leadership Formation : Identifying, equipping, and empowering leaders at all levels
Local Church Formation: Strengthening existing churches and planting new ones
Missional Formation: Facilitating the Great Commission in neighborhoods and nations

“This isn't just a document that will sit on a shelf,” emphasizes Rev. Kara Bussabarger, task team member. “Our approach empowers those championing each goal to invest in the process by having ownership of the tactical steps and timelines for moving forward.”

Implementation of the strategy will involve working alongside various teams, groups, and committees from the GLAC to articulate tactical objectives for each goal. Each objective will include clear metrics for success, responsible parties, resource requirements, and realistic timelines to ensure accountability and progress tracking.

“By empowering our teams and committees to develop specific objectives, we create broader buy-in, leverage diverse expertise, and establish a culture of shared ownership in our strategic direction,” adds Jill Davis, strategic planning team lay member. “This ensures that we do not create a top-down plan from the Conference leadership to local churches, and that both clergy and laity who are gifted and passionate in these areas can contribute in developing the next steps to bring this vision to life.”

The River Network Breakout Session

The River Network will lead a special breakout session during Annual Conference with additional resources and training. Be sure to check the conference schedule and make plans to attend this valuable session.

Class Meeting Breakout Session

Dr. Art Collins and the GLAC Discipleship Team will lead a breakout focused on revitalizing the Methodist practice of class meetings. Historically, these meetings were the foundation of Methodist church planting success—at our peak, Methodists were establishing up to four new churches daily, largely through the multiplication of these small groups. This session represents a vital "upstream" approach to church planting and multiplication.

Church Planting Breakfast - Thursday, June 12

Following last year's successful gathering, we'll host another informal breakfast for those interested in church planting. This networking opportunity will include representatives from both The River Network and the New Life Network (Red Nueva Vida), a Hispanic Church Planting Network with whom the GLAC is exploring a partnership. This is an excellent chance to connect with others passionate about church planting and learn about resources for various ministry contexts, including Spanish-speaking communities.

Note: Representatives from the New Life Network (Red Nueva Vida) will also have a table at Annual Conference for those interested in Hispanic ministry who cannot attend the breakfast.

The Great Lakes Prayer and Intercessory Team would like to invite you to an opportunity to be in prayer during the Annual Conference session. The team is seeking prayer persons available onsite to cover the prayer room during the Great Lakes Annual Conference held at Spring Arbor University, Spring Arbor, MI. Their goal is to have three people available to pray for one-hour time slots to pray with people seeking prayer during the conference. Use first link below to sign up.

GLAC Moves to Refinement Phase of Strategic Planning Process

The Great Lakes Annual Conference (GLAC) of the Global Methodist Church has successfully completed the Gathering Phase of its comprehensive strategic planning process and is now transitioning into the Refinement Phase. This marks a significant milestone in the conference's journey to define and communicate our shared future direction and priorities.

“We have been overwhelmed by the prayerful and thoughtful participation from across our conference,” says Rev. Dr. Scott Pattison, GLAC Conference Superintendent. “The Holy Spirit has been clearly present in this process, with many survey responses and rich discussions that reflect a deep commitment to our mission. As we move into the Refinement Phase, we are excited to see how God will shape these collective insights into a unified vision.”

The initial Gathering Phase, which ran from January through mid-March, yielded exceptional engagement from all segments of the conference community. Over 120 individuals responded to the strategic planning survey. Additionally, facilitated brainstorming sessions with the Leadership Team, Cabinet, Laity, and Board of Ministry generated many additional ideas and insights.

The Refinement Phase, now underway and continuing through April, will be led by a task team of strategic thinkers representing various perspectives from across the conference. The team includes Jill Davis, Bridget Douglas, Ellen Harbin, Rev. Dr. Scott Pattison, Rev. Stan Pegram, Rev. Tyler Best, and Rev. Kara Bussabarger. Each team member will be reading through and delving into all the brainstorming session notes and survey submissions, thoroughly analyzing this comprehensive input to identify common themes. These common themes will form the framework and landing place for the emerging strategic goals the team will draw from the gathered input. Throughout this process, the team will bathe everything in prayer, seeking God's guidance at every step.

“We've assembled a team with strategic thinking abilities and multiplication mindsets,” says Rev. Tyler Best, GLAC Director of Operations. “These individuals were selected for their ability to discern patterns and think holistically about our future. Most importantly, they understand that this is a discernment process that must be bathed in prayer from beginning to end.”

The task team's work follows a precise timeline: a formation meeting in late March, followed by individual in-depth review of all data through the end of the month, reconvening in early April to discuss and discern findings, and completing their work by the end of April. The timeline allows May for packaging the final plan and creating communication tools before the Annual Conference in June.

The team will produce a draft strategic plan the Leadership Council will then refine before the final presentation to the conference.

“We're entering the most challenging but exciting part of this journey,” says Best. “Our team is committed to honoring voices that contributed while seeking God's wisdom in crafting a plan that will truly advance our mission to make disciples and spread scriptural holiness.”

Following the task team's work, the Leadership Council will refine the draft plan, after which it will be shared with the conference community in May through digital communications and Pre-Conference Briefings via video. The strategic plan will also be presented at the Annual Conference session in June, with implementation scheduled to begin in July 2025. GLAC Partners with Methodist Foundation of Mississippi for Investment Management and Stewardship Education

The Great Lakes Annual Conference (GLAC) of the Global Methodist Church is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Methodist Foundation of Mississippi (MFM) for investment management and stewardship education services. The partnership, approved by the GLAC Leadership Council, establishes two new funds aimed at supporting local churches and clergy needs across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

“This partnership represents our commitment to responsible stewardship of conference resources while creating sustainable support systems for our local churches and clergy," said Conference Superintendent Scott Pattison. “We aspire to be an annual conference that effectively discovers, develops, and deploys clergy to serve and lead our local churches and other ministry opportunities as they carry out the mission of the Global Methodist Church. These funds are a next step in pursuing this goal.”

After an extensive evaluation process, the GLAC Finance & Administration Team unanimously recommended MFM over competing organizations. While other entities expressed interest in increasing Global Methodist representation, MFM already demonstrated this commitment with half of their board already consisting of Global Methodist clergy and laity. Additionally, MFM's no-fee short term fund—currently offering a 5.35% return rate—outperformed competitors whose offerings included various fee structures that diminished returns. The Foundation's investment approach through Charles Schwab with management by Gerber/Taylor Associates, Inc., rather than Wespath, also aligned better with the conference's values.

The two established funds include:

Ministerial Scholarship Fund : Initially funded with $25,000, this fund will assist those experiencing a call into ministry as clergy with seminary and alternative pathway educational expenses. The application and disbursement process for this scholarship program is currently in development. Fundraising opportunities for this fund are ongoing and more information regarding possible matching gifts are forthcoming.
Clergy Health Support Fund : Seeded with $100,000, this fund will provide bridge funding for clergy who are unable to continue service at their current appointment due to significant health limitations but still require health insurance while awaiting long-term disability or other healthcare options. This funding will alleviate the financial burden on local churches, enabling congregations who qualify to maintain fiscal stability during an important leadership transition.

Other investment funds are under consideration and will be shared when established.

The partnership also provides GLAC churches access to generosity and stewardship education offered by MFM, whether directly to local churches, through annual conference breakouts, or separate planned events. To provide input on possible topics to be covered in the future, please complete this survey . More information about stewardship events will be available at a later date.

Assist with Flood Relief Efforts in the MidSouth

There are several areas throughout the MidSouth Conference where extensive flooding took place in February. The MidSouth Conference encompasses Kentucky, Middle and East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, parts of West Virginia, and a few counties in North Georgia. Support for past disaster relief has been overwhelmingly positive. Unfortunately, the need for help once again occurs throughout their conference. Local GMC churches in the Great Lakes AC are invited to help those in need. You can donate securely online with 100% of donations received to be used within the MidSouth for disaster relief.

Great Lakes and Ethiopia Nazrawiyan Annual Conferences Formalize Missional Partnership

The missions philosophy of the Global Methodist Church (GM Church) is to encourage local churches to directly fund and participate in missions projects rather than annual conferences and the denomination orchestrating such efforts. The GM Church is also committed to assisting local churches in understanding the difference between relief, evangelism, and secular charity. Missions are critical for the Kingdom, and local churches are best fit to carry them out.

With that said, the larger church hopes local churches will support emerging annual conferences that have limited resources. To bring balance to local church assistance, our bishops have asked U.S. annual conferences to support these emerging counterpart annual conferences overseas and help them become self-sustaining, which could take many years. The Ethiopian Nazrawiyan Annual Conference (ENAC) and the Oasis Annual Conference have been selected by the Great Lakes Annual Conference (GLAC) to be in partnership.

Ethiopia may have fewer resources, but they have plenty of enthusiasm for evangelism and church planting. Starting a year ago, local churches in the GLAC began funding education for pastors' children in Ethiopia engaged in this work. GLAC and ENAC have now expanded that initiative and formalized their partnership, strengthening ties between Methodist congregations across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin with a vibrant network of churches throughout Ethiopia. In addition to GLAC, ENAC is also partnering with the Heartland Annual Conference. Bishop Scott Jones is serving as the episcopal leader assigned to the emerging ENAC, and Bob Hegel is assisting as ambassador for this missional partnership.

Partnership Details

Building on the year of initial collaboration, this new comprehensive partnership encompasses several key initiatives. Pastoral Family Support is sustained by support of $50,400 collectively from local churches, small groups, families, and individuals given through the GLAC. The remaining components of the partnership are funded by the generous support of GLAC local churches through connectional funding. Ten percent of the annual conference budget is set aside to support missions yearly. Connectional funding provides approximately $80,700 of annual funding for the ENAC partnership. The remaining missions budget supports other emerging partnerships, such as with the Oasis Annual Conference and additional missions needs. Below is more information about the various components of the GLAC/ENAC missional partnership.

Pastoral Family Support
The partnership will support 168 pastoral families throughout Ethiopia, providing resources that enable them to focus on their ministry work. This is an expansion of the current initiative launched last year in which local churches, small groups, families, and individuals supported 119 families at $300 per year. As the Ethiopian church grows, so does the number of pastoral families and our opportunity to support them.

Training
A major pastoral training conference took place earlier this month in Hawassa, Ethiopia. GLAC Conference Superintendent Scott Pattison and Rev. Rick Kindschi traveled to Hawassa to lead the training alongside Bishop Scott Jones, ENAC Conference Superintendent Anbessu Tolla Feyissa, and leaders of the Heartland Conference. This event brought together over 150 Ethiopian clergy for intensive training and joyous fellowship, strengthening ministry across the region. Ongoing training will be provided by a National Education Coordinator, and other emerging leaders who will assist in the training and development of local churches throughout Ethiopia. This role will be instrumental in building capacity within local churches.

Presiding Elder Transportation Support
Ten motorcycles have been provided to the ENAC for the Presiding Elders to use, enhancing their ability to serve rural congregations across multiple locations. Presiding Elders travel church to church to supervise and care for the churches in their districts. Ethiopia is mountainous, with poor infrastructure and harsh travel conditions, so the motorcycles will be an excellent tool for making the Gospel work more manageable.

Cross-Cultural Exchange
Conference leaders from both annual conferences will participate in regular exchanges, fostering deeper relationships and collaboration. The ENAC Conference Superintendent Anbessu Tolla Feyissa will visit Michigan in June 2025 for the GLAC Annual Conference session, just as GLAC leadership traveled to Ethiopia in February 2025 for training and to attend the convening ENAC conference.

Sustainable Growth
The partnership emphasizes long-term sustainability, with both conferences working together to develop local leadership and resources. This includes implementing stewardship programs and building capacity for self-sustaining ministry operations in Ethiopia. To that end, the partnership will be revisited annually to discern aspects that may need shifting with all involved. Between these times of revisiting, the budget includes sufficient flexibility to account for the unexpected and emergencies.

“This partnership represents a significant step forward in our efforts to be a truly global church,” said Conference Superintendent Pattison. “By formalizing our relationship with the Ethiopia Nazrawiyan Annual Conference, we're creating a framework for sustained collaboration that will grow the Kingdom for years to come.”

It is an exciting time with all the Holy Spirit is doing to spread scriptural holiness around the globe! GLAC leaders are also working with the Heartland Conference to offer as many opportunities to partner with ENAC as possible. Additional information regarding the work of the GLAC Missions Team will be provided as it is available, including details about a developing missional partnership with the Oasis Annual Conference.

Key Annual Conference Forms Go Live

The deadline for all three of the below forms is Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 11:45 pm ET.

General Conference Delegate Self-Nomination

The conference will elect eligible delegates to represent our conference at the 2026 GM Church General Conference in Africa. The number of delegates to be elected is yet to be determined, as is the exact location on the African continent. Candidates must self-nominate through the nomination form. Please keep in mind that this role requires:

Significant travel commitments
Extensive reading and preparation
Possible financial responsibilities
High energy and dedication

Self-nomination allows potential delegates to carefully consider these commitments before putting themselves forward. All candidates will be presented to the conference for prayerful consideration before voting takes place in June.

Transform Your Leadership Journey: An Invitation to ILI

The Great Lakes Annual Conference extends a special invitation to leaders within the conference for a transformative leadership experience through the International Leadership Institute (ILI) in March 2025. This opportunity is for both lay and clergy leaders. As the conference continues to grow and strengthen, developing strong, Spirit-led leaders who can effectively multiply Kingdom impact remains a high priority.

Every ILI participant is equipped with the Eight Core Values of the most effective Christian leaders and then challenged to train others. The training is made unique through the process of multiplication, accelerating the spread of the Gospel!

This training represents a unique opportunity for participants to deepen their leadership gifts while committing to lead district/regional trainings that allow the impact to ripple. The vision is to develop “a deep bench” of leaders equipped with the ILI material so that they can be ready and available to teach at future ILI trainings around the conference. Whether serving as a seasoned or emerging leader, this intensive training will equip participants with practical tools, timeless principles, and a renewed vision for ministry impact while also providing an opportunity to pass it on.

Strategic Planning Initiative to Chart Future Course

The Great Lakes Annual Conference (GL AC) has launched a comprehensive strategic planning process aimed at defining our direction and priorities for the coming years. This collaborative initiative, rooted in the Global Methodist Church’s mission “to make disciples of Jesus Christ and spread scriptural holiness across the globe,” is an effort to engage voices from all over the conference in shaping our future. Two resources being used to provide a common language and understanding is our Culture Statement and Hero Maker , a book by Dave Ferguson and Warren Bird. We invited you to engage these resources.

“This isn't just another planning exercise,” says Rev. Dr. Scott Pattison, GLAC Conference Superintendent. “We're implementing a carefully designed process that is bathed in prayer and guided by the Holy Spirit. Our goal is to develop a plan that is practically achievable, but is not possible unless God is part of it. The plan will provide us a strategic guide to invest our limited resources as we grow as a conference and support local church ministry.”

The Process

The strategic planning process will unfold in three phases over the first half of 2025. The initial Gathering Phase, running from January through mid-March, will focus on collecting different perspectives from across the conference community. During this phase, the Leadership Team, Cabinet, Laity, and Board of Ministry will be engaged through brainstorming sessions, while also conducting a conference-wide strategic planning survey. This phase emphasizes the importance of understanding both local church needs and conference-wide opportunities.

Following the gathering of input, the Refinement Phase will take place from mid-March through April. During this period, a dedicated task team representative of the conference will carefully analyze the collected ideas and develop them into a cohesive strategic framework. The team will discern four to five themes from all the gathered input and these will become key strategic areas forming the foundation of the plan. From there, specific goals from the input will be prayerfully determined for each strategic area.

The final Presentation Phase, scheduled for May, will focus on sharing the proposed plan with the conference community. This will include the distribution of a document outlining the plan's strategic areas and goals, followed by Pre-Conference Briefings via video. The process is expected to culminate in a presentation on the Strategic Plan at the Annual Conference session in June, with implementation set to begin in July 2025.

Participation Invited

All members of the conference community are encouraged to contribute their ideas and perspectives through an online survey available at the link below. The survey will remain open through Saturday, March 15, 2025 , and represents a crucial opportunity for voices from across the conference to help shape our future direction. Local churches are encouraged to send to their leaders and members.

We are excited to announce our upcoming Activate clergy event, where clergy will gather together to Dream Boldly and seek God's vision for our future. Join us as clergy create space to listen to the Holy Spirit's guidance for our churches, conference, and movement as well as themselves personally.

Free “Planting Healthy Churches” Training Offered in Illinois

The Great Lakes Annual Conference invites you to join The River Network International for a special training: Planting Healthy Churches. Throughout this two day workshop, you will learn the principles of church planting and how it can apply to you.

Whether you've already launched or have just begun to hear the call to plant a church, the Planting Healthy Churches training will give you tools for the journey. This training is open to all , regardless of denomination and conference, and groups are encouraged to attend together!

Navigating the New Path to Ordination

The Great Lakes Annual Conference has entered the next chapter in its ordination process. After originally being directed by the Transitional Leadership Council (TLC) of the entire Global Methodist Church from the beginning, our Board of Ministry now holds full responsibility for the journey of clergy candidates - from initial reception through vetting and final recommendations. This transition aligns with the recently implemented Book of Doctrines and Discipline, effective January 1, 2025.

The new ordination pathway now encompasses comprehensive interviews, detailed written submissions, psychological evaluations, and other components. While this thorough process will require more time for completion, it ensures a robust preparation for ordained ministry.

LAITY: Spring Course Registration for School of Lay Ministry Remains Open
